3 Of My Favourite Music Videos

Jamiroquai - Virtual Insanity

The reason that I like this video is because of the effects that are used during the video. The video is unique because it looks as if the furniture in the video is moving by itself when in fact it is being moved along the wall to look at if its magic or an illusion. The editing of the video is very slow and there isn't a lot of cuts in the video as it is basically the same scene repeated. There are a few erects such as swirls and swipes to make the transition between the different shots. The mise-en-scene of the video is very simple because it is simply a bright white room with furniture stuck to the walls. So in terms of the surroundings of the video, there isn't much going on.

A-ha - Take On Me

Although I have only recently watched the video after doing the top 100 music videos. As I gave explained in my previous post, I explained how I love the effects that they have added into the video by having a cross-over between an animation and real life. The video took about a month to film and about 1,400 pics to compete the video. In the terms of mise-en-scene, there isn't a lot going on in this video either because most of the video is animations and comic strips with the occasional cut to real life shots. When the video switches to the real life shot the background is actually really simple with the frames of the comic there. There are a lot of edits in this video because it is a stop motion comic which means that there are a lot of pictures, as I said before they needed to draw about 1,400 which I'm guessing means there was about half as many cuts and edits.

ColdPlay - The Scientist

This is a very unique video because it is also very complicated. Although the song is going forward in the video the singer is acutely going backwards 'Back to the start'. In order to make the video work out the artist needed to find words that match the lyrics to the song but still going backwards. It even hurts my brain just thinking about it. There is a lot of mise-en-scene on this video because it shows the journey he made through the video so there is going to be loads of different scenarios such as at the end of the video he is on the car while at the beginning of the video he wakes up on a mattress. The editing of the video is rather mellow because there is a lot of taking shots as you follow his actions as he rewinds his steps to the incident.
